Psychosis

If you or someone you care about is experiencing psychotic symptoms, it can feel confusing, frightening, or isolating. You might be unsure of what’s happening, or struggling to make sense of recent experiences. At Open Horizons Psychology, we want you to know: you are not alone, and help is available.

Psychosis refers to having unusual experiences or changes in how you see, hear, think, or feel. This might include:

• Seeing or hearing things that others don’t

• Strong beliefs that others find unusual or hard to understand

• Feeling disconnected from reality or having confused thoughts

These experiences can be distressing and difficult to talk about—but they are more common than many people think. Psychosis affects people of all ages and backgrounds, and it can happen for many different reasons, including stress, trauma, sleep problems, or mental health conditions.

While psychosis can be deeply challenging, many people recover and go on to live meaningful, connected, and fulfilling lives. With the right support, it’s possible to make sense of what you’re experiencing, develop effective coping strategies, and rediscover a sense of purpose and identity.
