Change and loss are issues that affect all of us at some stage in our lives. Grief is a normal response and it can affect every part of our life including our behaviours, thoughts, feelings, beliefs, health and relationships with others. People respond to loss in a variety of ways. The intensity and duration of the grieving process differs between individuals.
With the support of family and friends, many people adapt to loss well and may not experience intense and persisting feelings. However, for some, the experience of grief can be overwhelming and psychological therapy can be beneficial.
At Open Horizons Psychology, we are mindful how an individual’s experience of loss and grief is unique and personal. Accordingly, we work with individuals to tailor treatment to meet their specific needs. We draw on current theoretical models of grief to help people understand their experiences and feel supported.
